Different Types Of Drugs-Getting High
July 17, 2008
There are many different types of drugs than people can use to get high and feel good such as alcohol, prescription drugs and illegal narcotics, which can be easily obtained and abused by its users. The side effects of the drugs can range from slight dizziness to prolonged coma and/or death.
A drug is any controlled substance than can alter a person’s state of mind and well-being and that includes the use of alcohol. Is alcohol really a drug? Yes, alcohol is definitely a drug, since it alters a person’s state of mind and well-being and is the most common used and abused legal drug in the world.
Alcohol controls a person’s body by slowing down the nervous system, which causes the loss of control of control over a person’s speaking abilities and thinking and that is why those who suffer from drunkenness have vision impairment, lack of body control, unintelligible speech and lack of straight thinking.
Of course, the amount of alcohol in a person’s system needed to affect these operations varies from person to person and some people are able to function regularly while slightly intoxicated. The amount of alcohol needed for a person to become significantly intoxicated does differ for each person, with some needing more or less alcohol than others, so it is easier or harder for one to experience drunkenness than for another person to experience the same thing.
Marijuana is also another abused drug and is the second most used illegal drug in the world behind cocaine. Marijuana is a downer drug, which works to dull the senses by relaxing the nervous system, causing its users to feel “mellow.” Marijuana is called by most some as a “gateway” drug, for the reason that it usually leads younger people to use other narcotics like cocaine and heroin.
The lasting effects for users of marijuana are anywhere from two to four hours, which they will be in a state of euphoria and can impair its users ability to concentrate and think with short-term memory loss and also can cause lung and respiratory disorders for its users after prolonged inhaling of the drug. Marijuana also can be used for medicinal purposes in some areas in the world.
Cocaine is also another drug and the most commonly illegally used and abused drug in the world. Cocaine is so much used and traded that it controls the economies of most Latin American countries. The drug act as a stimulant, which increases the heart rate and blood pressure and prolonged use can lead to long-term mental and/or physical problems.
