Destination Weddings
June 17, 2008
Destination weddings have become a very popular alternative to those who do not want the traditional type of wedding ceremony and reception. To a lot of couples, they are more interested in making their special day just that, special for them. They are for people who are not as interested in creating a presentation of their wedding, but celebrating the wedding itself.
With a lot of couples getting married older in life than before, they are choosing to have their wedding day to themselves and not having a big crowd and fluffy decorations. So what exactly is a destination wedding? Well, basically the couple chooses a location apart from where they reside and choose to have their nuptial exchange and ceremony at. Usually, destination weddings are associated with tropical settings and beaches, but can be anywhere that the couples choose.
While some travel abroad and overseas, others choose to pick a location closer to home and have a wedding all to themselves. There is no right or wrong way to have a destination wedding. The couples themselves can decide if it is the right choice for them. Some destinations offer the bride and groom the best in accommodations and a ceremony very similar to what they would experience at home in a traditional fashion.
Couples that choose a destination wedding on certain islands and resorts can have the entire wedding and honeymoon catered to their individual tastes. Some offer the services of fresh flowers, attendants, wedding cake and a reception, while others that choose a private setting can get married right on the sandy beach in the sun.
The appeal of destination weddings has been increasing over the past years, and can be partly due to the fact that more and more people are getting married later than before, and can usually pay for the entire wedding themselves, without relying on the bride’s parents to fund it. This gives them a freedom to be able to choose where they want to get married and how they want their special day to be.
It also can be a great alternative to a traditional wedding when the couple comes from different cultural or religious backgrounds, and find it too hard to decide on a ceremony that fits the needs of both families. Whatever the reason may be for choosing a destination wedding, there are limitless options and can make for a very special wedding day.
