Delay the Onset of Wrinkles

delaywrinkleWrinkles are an ever-present worry for those who are getting older. It may not be possible to entirely avoid wrinkles, but by following these steps you can at least delay their onset for a little while.

Regularly moisturize your skin, especially if it’s dry. Moisturizing keeps skin hydrated and supple, thereby slowing down its loss of elasticity. Air conditioners and heaters dry out the air, so you should find a heavy duty moisturizer if you’re around them a lot.

You stretch your skin when you rest your face on your arms. Try to find other ways to rest your head.

The area around the eyes is the first place your face will show signs of wrinkles, so be very gentle and smooth when removing makeup. Don’t pull or scrub.

Sunlight saturation reaches its peak between 11am and 3pm, so stay in the shade during that time period. Sunlight has just as much of an aging effect on the skin as actual age, so keep sunscreen handy.

Don’t squint in bright light; instead wear a pair of sunglasses. A good pair looks great and helps you avoid squinting.  Squinting causes premature wrinkles to develop.

Yoga helps. Chakrasana, Sirshasana, Adhomukha Svansana and other inverted positions increase blood flow to the face.  Increasing oxygen levels helps maintain skin elasticity.

Regularly applying a nourishing face mask to your skin will help rejuvenate your face. Even household items like honey, unboiled milk, olive oil and egg yolks can be beneficial to the skin.  Apply any of the above for ten minutes or so, once a week.

Smoking increases the level of toxins in body, which leads to premature aging. Even the simple act of puckering your lips to inhale can cause lines to form quickly in the area. If you want to avoid wrinkles, it’s time to kick the habit. Alcohol can also wreak havoc on your skin. A night of drinking leads to puffy and stretched skin the next day.

While anti-aging creams do not provide the miracles that they so often claim, they can delay the onset of wrinkles.

Believe it or not, adding chickpeas and soya beans to your diet can help keep your skin healthy! The ingredients in these foods help combat wrinkles and keep you looking young and fresh. Chickpeas (also called channas or garbanzos) should be eaten in sprout form to be the most effective.
