Defining Eyelashes With Mascara

Windows to the soul, well made-up eyes also add to the beauty of your face. Eye shadow, eyeliner and kajal all serve to make the eyes more attractive, but your makeup is never complete without defining the eyelashes with mascara. Used to darken, thicken and define eyelashes, mascara comes in liquid, cake and cream form. No modern day city girl can do without mascara. It not only opens out the eyes, but also makes them look wider and brighter. There are many tips and tricks on using mascara to make the eyes look prettier. Mascara rules are simple and easy, for example:
Black works for everyone, though it can be a little harsh on blondes. They would do better with brown mascara for day, while reserving black for a dinner date. If, you like the retro look, then go in for coloured mascara. Blue mascara is great for brightening up blue eyes, while green and purple give a wide-eyed open look to brown eyes.
After your eye makeup is complete, apply mascara starting from the base of your lashes to darken, thicken and define them. Mascara placed near roots not tips gives an illusion of length. Let dry and put on second coat, finish by wiggling a lash comb through to tips to get rid of excess mascara. For mascara applications, always go in for thin, short brushes as thin brushes allow you to get into the corner of the eyes, while short brushes give you more control.
Another trick is to powder under the eyes before applying mascara to prevent mascara smudges. Curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler before applying mascara for a wider, brighter look. Mascara should be applied in a zigzag motion to cut down on clumping. For a dramatic look, mascara should only be applied to upper lashes, while on lower lashes it helps give a wide-eyed look.
Makeup artists swear by mascara primer, which applied before putting on mascara helps prime and separate lashes. A couple of coats of mascara to define the lashes and you can now slay the world with one look!
