Decorating Childrens Room
While decorating a baby nursery, safety of the baby is the biggest issue.
Some important points to be kept in mind while decorating a nursery:
a) Baby’s crib should never be placed near a window. Babies also need sunrays, air and water in adequate quantities. In the morning, sunrays may disturb the sleep of the baby while baby’s sleep is disturbed by streetlight and noise at night. Shadows casted by trees near the nursery’s window may terrify a baby and in winters, cold breezes make the child cold.
b) Too much of furniture is not required in a nursery. A cradle or bassinet, crib, changing table, rocking chair and a chest of drawers are enough in a baby’s room. The gap in slats of the cribs should not be too wide, to avoid having the baby’s head slip through it. The mattress of the crib should fit snuggly, so that the little one’s limbs do not get caught between the mattress and the sides of the crib.
c) Lead-based paints are poisonous, hence, should never be used in nursery. Non-toxic paints and wall papers are the best options for the walls of nursery.
d) Floor lamps should not be used in baby’s room. All electric switches and sockets should be high on the wall so that they remain out of reach for children. Never keep electric appliances in a nursery.
e) Small accessories which can be easily swallowed should not be used to decorate nurseries.
f) Floor-length curtains should be avoided as children may grab them and may get suffocated.
g) Fur toys should be avoided in nursery as the fur may cause choking.
h) Carpets, rugs, photo frames, framed pictures and colorful posters make the room beautiful and give a lively look.
i) Spending too much money in nursery décor is a total wastage as children outgrow them very soon and the room needs to be redecorated according to the child’s taste. Today things are available in large varieties. Buying furniture and other accessories of reasonable quality and price is a sound decision.
