Crazy Wedding Cakes – Is anything too much when it comes to Creativity and Wedding Cakes?
June 14, 2008
From towers to flowers, wedding cakes are notorious for being the representation of a wedding and what most wedding guests look forward to in the wedding reception. While a lot of brides and grooms choose to stick with the traditional ways of wedding cakes, there are those that are stepping out of the confines of tradition, and embarking on their own version of the wedding cake.
When it comes to crazy wedding cakes, some couples choose different, exotic flavors to differentiate their wedding cake from the rest of the world. But others choose options such as tiny teacakes or cupcakes to signify their nuptials. Others go all out and design a wedding cake crazy enough to attract photographs and snide looks from the elders of the family.
If you are having a specific theme for your wedding and reception, chances are you will carry that theme over to your wedding cake as well. If so, depending on the theme and how far you are working with it, your wedding cake can be a reflection of the entire wedding, wrapped up in one sweet ending.
Some couples are opting to go crazy with their wedding cake by creating it more like a sculpture of fine art than a pastry. People have spent thousands of dollars on a cake creation that only feeds one hundred people. From leaning towers of Pisa, to the Statue of Liberty, wedding cakes are taking all kinds of unusual art forms.
So how crazy is too crazy when it comes to wedding cakes? Depending on whom you ask, it really is up to the couple. Wedding consultants are saying that nowadays it is becoming much more customary for people to get married older, and funding the wedding completely on their own. This is in sharp contrast to the days of old where the bride’s parents were typically fiscally responsible for the wedding. This new shift in wedding tradition is allowing more choice and freedom when it comes to wedding designs and themes for the couples.
Wedding consultants are also saying that anything goes when it comes to a wedding theme and therefore, wedding cake. Nothing is over the top as long as it makes the couple happy and entertains the guests. From exotic flavors like jellybeans and licorice, to hot pink and feather boas, crazy wedding cakes are making us rethink the way a wedding and wedding cake should be. And with all of this creativity, it can make weddings a lot more expressive and unique, not to mention more exciting to attend.
