Cleaning Up Your Makeup

Even though we would like to think that our makeup will last forever, it does have a shelf life. Not only does our makeup have a shelf life but, our brushes need to be cleaned regularly as well to protect them and us from bacteria build up.
Your makeup generally will have a use before date on it and it needs to be stored in a dark cool place in order to keep it fresh. Once you open it, be sure to close it tightly after use and always use brushes and applicators instead of your fingers.
If you are wondering about the shelf life of a certain product but you are not sure if it is time to throw it away, there are some tell tale signs that you should look for. When it comes to your powders, they can last for up to 2 years. Keep in a cool place and keep your brushes cleaned. Once blending becomes hard, discard and purchase a new one.
You can store your liquid foundation in the fridge so it has a longer shelf life. If the foundation is for oily skin, throw it away after 18 months and with water based throw it away once it starts to get a different color. You never want to put your fingers in the bottles. Always use a cotton ball or other applicator to put on your face.
For your mascara and liquid eye liner, throw these away after 3 months of use and a pencil eye liner will last you about 2 years. Your lipstick should be replaced at least every two years but has quite a long shelf life. Your eye shadow will last almost forever. Once you notice that the texture is different or it seems as though there is oil in it, it is time to throw it away.
Always keep your brushes cleaned well. Use an antibacterial cleaner so that you have less of a risk for bacteria to grow on your supplies. As always, use your applicators and brushes to avoid contamination of your makeup products.
