Circuit Training for Seniors

circuittrainingCircuit training is designed to provide overall fitness. It includes aerobics, strength training, resistance training, and stretching. It provides an all round workout for the body. It improves immunity and endurance. It works well for young adults, women, and seniors alike.

Weight training in the circuit program involves starting with lower levels of weights and training effectively at that level before proceeding to a different exercise.

This is especially true for seniors who have to build it up gradually. In addition, between two exercises there is a very small rest time between workouts to keep the momentum going.

It is similar to other fitness programs where you start with warm ups. A few stretches will also get you started. The program must be undertaken in such a way that even a beginner can do the exercise in the time frame that best suits their present endurance levels.

Circuit training begins with warming up followed by an exercise with limited pauses between them to allow time to cool down and some stretches. You can use a treadmill, train with weights, use a step climber, and then do some push-ups. You can choose a program that you are comfortable with and enjoy the session to get the most out of it.

Seniors can opt for circuit training because it offers a variety of fitness programs to choose from. It also offers opportunities to socialize and a peer group to keep consistent with the plan.

They should choose a plan where the needs and the endurance levels of all participants are considered and there is room to fit in even the slowest of them.

It is ideal to do only as much as the body can handle at least initially until the body gets used to the exercise regimen. Being consistent and working out everyday will provide the best possible results.

A gym or a health club not only offers a chance to work out, but also to form a peer group with each one motivating the other  It becomes a social and support network.

The synergetic effect of all like-minded people striving for fitness directs positive energy into the group. It becomes competitive and allows you to reach your desired fitness level.
