The old find about chocolate being harmful to one’s health is finally proved wrong by a new research that regards chocolates to be actually good for health. Yes, chocolates can reduce the risk of developing diabetes as they contain powerful anti-oxidants called flavonols.
Researches
The Italian research was conducted on 15 people who were made to eat one dark-chocolate everyday for 15 days and it was observed at the end of the research that their insulin level dropped by nearly half.
The lead researcher Caludio Ferri, M.D. said, “Flavonols increase nitric oxide production and that helps control insulin sensitivity.”
There was another Italian research on 163 women in which it was observed that women who eat more chocolate have experienced greater sex-drive and sexual satisfaction. This means that people who eat more chocolates may be more capable of deriving sexual pleasures than the rest.
Though the candy bars contain fats and sugar, the chocolates and nuts contain flavonols and proteins in them. Hence, one should moderate the amount of calorie intake through candy bars by following a schedule.
The 3-Step Guide
Firstly, one needs to moderate the amount of saturated fats. The content of saturated fats in some chocolates are: Mr. Goodbar – 7 gms, Snickers – 5 gms, Payday – 2 gms, Butterfinger – 6 gms, Nutrageous – 5 gms, Mounds – 10 gms, Milky Way – 7 gms and Baby Ruth – 8 gms.
Secondly, it is important to know the content of proteins in various candy bars as proteins are a great source of muscle-building. Snickers – 4 g, Payday – 6 g, Nutrageous – 6 g, MilkyWay – 2 g.
Thirdly, for a bar to provide overall nutrition, it should have less calories and sugar and should have high content of fibers and well-balanced unsaturated fats. Payday: 260 calories, 12 g unsaturated fat, 2 g fiber, 21 g sugar, Nutrageous: 280 calories, 11.5 g unsaturated fat, 2 g fiber, 20 g sugar.
