Child Sponsorship-A Noble Mission
July 19, 2008
Child sponsorship is a process or practice where the charitable organizations or individuals themselves agree to sponsor a child to provide for its education, health or medical care expenses until it reaches a suitable age. To sponsor a child is the noblest thing we can do as it not only gives the child a better chance at reasonably good life but also enables it to get a good education and eventually land a good job as it can now study for the degree and not just survive in a charitable home. The more children we sponsor, the brighter their future shall become.
NEED TO SPONSOR A CHILD
Millions of children are languishing in streets with no roof over their heads. In return for such luxury, they are prone to being abused or undernourished in some charity homes. The physical, mental and psychological trauma of street children is a shame for every well bred citizen. All the popular Hollywood celebrities have taken a lead in sponsoring the children. Most of them even prefer to sponsor a child anonymously. The national and international organizations play mediators to streamline the actual process of the total sponsorship of children. The sponsorship cuts through all the cross-cultural barriers an even the boundaries of the countries. You must have heard about Angelina Jolie sponsoring an African child. It is beneficial for the celebrities to be associated with this noble cause as it stirs the other consciences as well.
THE CRITICISM ASSOCIATED WITH SUCH SPONSORSHIPS
The hindsight behind the noble cause may be that only a particular child may get the benefits of the sponsorship. This looks to be a little selfish when there are other children in worse conditions. So the efforts should be made to spread and share the benefits between the neediest children so that a sponsorship may benefit a group (to gain overall education, for example) instead of an individual.
Some charitable organizations are alleged to keep a good share of profits so that the other member children get no benefits when the funds percolate down. Thus it is essential for the sponsors to keep track monthly whether the fund pool they created is actually being utilized efficiently or not.
It, thus, becomes essential to ensue that millions of homeless children get first preference when it comes to sponsoring a child. Children are angels of God. If you have the luxury, it is your noble duty to wipe a tear from faces of such needy children. Several of the children are without parents, orphans in this cruel world with no chance of a roof above their heads, leave alone education and a good settlement in life. They are in a grave danger of slipping into alcoholism and drug abuse. So it is high time that the society gives them their due.
