When the CPS finds it necessary to protect the child, they have the option to care for the child in-home or out of home.
In-home services are offered so as to keep the child with the family whilst studying well the improvement of the situation
Out-of-home services are offered when the situation is tense and removal of the child from the family for sometime seems the only best option
When child maltreatment is reported the child protective services will firstly assess or investigate to make sure that there was child abuse
Secondly they will assess the family to check the causes, nature and extent of abuse
Next they will plan the case and lastly they will provide the necessary service
