Care of the feet
You need to take care of your feet as well for complete beauty. Your face will not be able to maintain that beautiful smile if you have tired, aching feet. You will not be able to walk properly, which might lead to irritability and tension. Women are known to prioritise looks over comfort. However, you should take care to avoid high heels and pointed toes.
Some useful exercises
Here are some simple exercises that will provide some comfort to your tired feet.
Sit cross-legged and rotate your feet six times towards each other and six times away from each other.
You can also sit with legs stretched, straight out in front. Now, start by bending your toes up, go as far up as you can. Then stretch them down, as far down as possible.
Try to pick up a pencil on the floor with your toes. This will also make your feet strong.
When you sit on a chair, keep your feet on the floor. Now, spreading out your toes as far as possible will help to tone up the feet muscles.
You should consult a chiropodist if you seem to have a fungal infection. It might start with a slight redness and itching, however, it can get worse.
You should keep your feet dry and clean to avoid any infections. Consulting a chiropodist is the best thing to do for corns and ingrown toenails.
Pedicure at home
Start by soaking your feet in warm water. You can add a few drops of dettol or any other disinfectant. Clean your toenails with a nailbrush and rub off any hard skin. However, do not attempt to cut through the hard skin because that involves the risk of cutting yourself. Now dry your feet, making sure that they are dry enough between the toes.
Use a little foot cream to massage your feet. Now, apply a little cuticle cream around the nails. Do not cut the cuticle unless its edges are ragged. Instead, use an orange stick wrapped with a twist of cotton wool to gently press the cuticle back.
Always cut the nails straight across and do not cut the edges but smooth them with an emery board. You should not cut them too short because that will cause them to grow in the skin.
Dry the nail with some varnish remover. Put cotton pads in between toes to avoid smudging.
Select the right stockings and shoes
Always ensure that you are buying the right size. Too tight or too loose shoes will cause friction and lead to blisters. Stockings should be of the same colour as your skin but should also match your clothing. Heavier stockings are appropriate for daywear whereas finer ones are good for social occasions. Therefore, choose accordingly.
