Can I give birth to twins naturally?

When a woman is pregnant with twins, often she must be faced with a question as to what are the chances of natural birth. Well, it depends on some factors.
First of all, it’s important to know what kind of twins are they? If they are identical then usually, a planned C-section delivery is recommended by many obstetricians. This can avoid any possible labor complications that can happen if, some blood flow from the placenta shared by twins. As far as non-identical twins are concerned, there can be a normal delivery.
Another factor is the position of the first child; in this a breech baby means that a C-section is required. Then you need to consider the size of the babies, and if the first child is much smaller, then a Caesarean is required. If there is a premature start of labor, then a vaginal birth is more suitable for the babies.
Even when a normal birth is planned, there might be a necessity of Caesarean so that the second baby is also gotten out quickly else it may be suffocating. Sometimes, there are also chances for a C-section delivery for the second child and normal delivery for the first. Almost 1 out of 20 cases in UK face this.
The delivery of twins is usually recommended to be between 36 and 38 weeks and normally the women go into labor at this time only. But if there is a delay in the case of twin pregnancy it can result in the depletion of placenta which can have dire consequences. And thus to reduce the load, the physician may ask you for a C-section. If the health of the mother is good and there is a proper positioning of baby, in that case the vaginal birth goes well. But if the mother has some complications such as high-blood pressure etc., and the positioning of the babies is also not normal, then C-section is a better option.
It’s always better to consult the obstetrician and tell her if you are comfortable with normal or C-section delivery or not.
