Can Everyone Carry Off A Red Lipstick
September 2, 2008
Oomph may be your motto, but if, you think everyone can look fabulous with red lips that beg to be kissed, think again. You may love the red lipstick won by Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth of yesteryears or our very own Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani, who are often seen with scarlet lips that beg to be kissed. However, women love to wear shades of red on their lips, but won’t spend time to find the perfect shade of red to match their skin tone and overall colouring.
Through the ages, women have tantalised and titillated men by using colour to accentuate their lips. Do you think Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor would be themselves without perfectly drawn red lips? Of course, not! And, think of all the goodbye messages dramatically scrawled across bathroom mirrors with a tube of red. Think of brothels and boardrooms where red lipstick stands for power and sexuality. The world wouldn’t be the same; there would be despair and doom everywhere, if a pair of scarlet lips could not be sighted.
The most important thing about wearing a red lipstick is to pick a perfect shade of red that brings out the siren in you. All shades of red lipsticks do not give the same results on everyone. The trick is to find the right shade and wear it properly, which will make all the difference. So, get out there and search for a red that will have them lusting after you. Not an easy task a look at the cosmetic counter reveals the depth of red choices available out there. While, most anyone can pull off a true red and it really is your safest bet, it is also true that those with yellow undertones should stick with warm reds i.e. in tomato, orange red, brick, blue, plum, tawny or golden brown.
If, your skin has pink undertones, you would be best of with cool reds, such as, pink, brick, berry, with plum or blue tones. Blue tones come with the added incentive of brightening and making dull, yellow teeth look whiter.
Also, according to makeup experts, when opting for a red lipstick, attention has to be paid to the shape of your lips. Lighter shades of red flatter lip lips, while deeper, darker reds look best on those whose lips are full and sensuous.
Prepare to get noticed. Red lipstick is not for those who want to blend into the crowd, so be ready to get noticed. If you’re not comfortable with an all out red to start with consider wearing a red-tinted gloss as a way to ease your way into it. You just might find you like the attention.
