STRESS & DEPRESSION
Stress and depression are psychological disorders, which are in themselves hazardous to human well being, but which may also trigger a number of other physical and psychological disorders such as migraines, muscle tension, hypertension, gradual collapse of the immune system, and heart attack.
AROMATHEAPY
Aromatherapy is a blanket term for the alternative medicine practices that incorporate the use of essential oils in the treatment of disorders and ailments. Used by holistic gurus, for centuries, it has only recently been accepted by general practitioners as a legitimate method of treatment, for acute and chronic stages of illnesses and diseases. Aromatherapy fuses the psychotherapeutic effects of massage, with the herbal properties of essential oils, to alleviate mental and emotional strain, and improve mood.
THE SURGE
The growth of stress and depression related cases, over the past decade, coupled with the negative effects of drug treatment of these disorders, called for a revolutionary treatment. Hence, aromatherapy became synonymous with the treatment of both. Since it incorporates a holistic approach to medicine, in which the entire being is treated, aromatherapy, like meditation, has proven to be a phenomenal treatment for stress and depression.
THERAPY
Although aromatherapy is not as intrusive a psychological treatment is, and therefore cannot treat the root of psychological disorders, essential oils uplift the mind and emotion. Treatment for stress and depression utilizes the aromas of basil, sage, sandalwood, lavender, ylang ylang, jasmine, rose, orange, and lemon, to promote a state of nirvana, in which stress and depression dissipate, as anxiety, fatigue, and tension are replaced by calm, serenity and relaxation.
SELF MADE
Two awesome aroma therapeutic blends, which alleviate stress and depression, are Number51 and Wise Man. Number51 borrows its name from Chanel No.5, as they both include a part ylang ylang; Number51, however, also included one part lavender, and three parts grapefruit. Wise Man is made with two parts frankincense, one part lemon, and two parts Jasmine.
The recent worldwide acceptance of aromatherapy treatment is due to the therapy’s mood altering properties; its ability to optimise the functioning of the immune, respiratory, and circulatory systems; its role in easing muscular fatigue; and its ability to eliminate stress and depression.
