Brutal Fashion – Beauty and the Military
June 9, 2008
There are many connotations around the topic of brutal fashion and beauty and the military. To some, it seems contradictory, but the two concepts can exist together. There are also many different interpretations of the phrase “Brutal Fashion”, to the fashion savvy; it can be interpreted as cutting edge, raw designs by the top designers. For the civic minded, it can mean cruelty to animals by donning oneself in fur garments.
Whichever meaning you think of when you hear the phrase brutal fashion, there is also another connotation that adds a whole new element to the phrase. Military fashion. Most people do not think about fashion and military being related, but to the thousands of troops overseas and those wives back at home, these can be very difficult times and sometimes they need a little beauty and fashion experience to remind them that aside from military moms or wives, they are in essence still women and still beautiful.
Some cities and salons are offering free military makeovers to moms in the military and wives whose husbands are overseas in the military that are here working full-time, sometimes two jobs and raising the family alone. These women do not have time to think about beauty, let alone treat themselves to a pampering day at the spa. So, some salons such as Posh Salon in Tampa, FL are doing just that.
Every month, they choose two military moms or wives and plan a whole day of beauty, fashion and some well deserved pampering. They surprise them by giving them a total beauty makeover completely free. The two lucky women are surprised at their door early in the morning, and swept away to the trendy, luxury spa where they are spoiled and pampered beyond their wildest dreams.
They are each treated to a complete makeover, facial, makeup advice and application, full body massage, skin treatments, pedicures and manicures, hair color and style and a spa lunch. For one day the women get to forget about all horrors and brutalities of war and the military, and just get to be women.
The women also get to go on a fashion-shopping spree and are given money to get designer fashions that they can feel good about. The women that win these experiences; say it was the best gift they could ever receive, second only to their loved ones returning home safely.
