Bleeding in pregnancy may be quite harmless. However, you should be aware about its cause and right time to consult doctor. So, in order to make you alert, here are some facts.
Early pregnancy bleeding:
Early pregnancy bleeding is pretty common because it is your first trimester. Most of the women think that they have miscarriage and thus they fear a lot. However, it is not necessarily the symptom of miscarriage and for most of the women it would stop soon and settle down.
There could be any reason for early pregnancy bleeding. Out of them, one may be the implantation. Implantation is a process when fertilized egg implants in the lining of uterus. This process mainly happens in first week or next week, thus it often causes slight bleeding.
Early pregnancy bleeding may be serious too. It would be a sign of ectopic pregnancy in which embryo grows within fallopian tube. In addition, it may be due to the threatened miscarriage, especially when it occurs in first trimester. Thus, if you suffer from heavier bleeding, consult to your doctor immediately. You can also consult it with your friends, midwife or GP who have already passed this stage.
Bleeding in middle to late pregnancy:
In late weeks of pregnancy mainly after thirteen weeks, chances of bleeding are very less. Even though, if it occurs then it may be caused due to the “cervical erosion”. In cervical erosion, the cervix becomes flimsy.
Bleeding would also cause because of extra estrogen production during pregnancy, which may be least bit risky for child or mother. Some physical changes that prepare your body for labor would also cause bleeding. So, it is quite obvious that you may have a bit bleeding in later stage of pregnancy also.
However, bleeding in later stage of pregnancy may be serious too. Placenta praevia would be a cause of bleeding in second or third trimester, where low-lying placenta come close or covers the cervix. Bleeding in late pregnancy phase is generally painless. In addition, placenta praevia can cause very severe bleeding also because of the blockage of baby’s access to birth canal. And at this time doctors recommend for Caesarean.
If bleeding in pregnancy is low then there is nothing to worry but be regular with your check-ups. Timely check-ups and proper following of doctor’s advice with balance diet as well as pregnancy exercise help you to have healthy baby.
