Best Remedies For Treating Sun Tanned Skin
May 30, 2008
Summertime, and you have indulged yourself recklessly by basking in the hot sun for days to rid of winter white skin and get a perfect tan. Long days of frolicking in the sun, sea and sand in the scorching sun has left you with reddish, itchy, peeling skin. While, everyone loves to look like they have nothing better to do than spend their days lying on the beach and swimming in the sea, it makes sense to remember that the ultra violet rays of the sun can leave you with sun burnt skin. In this case, it’s time to give your skin some tender loving care with home made scrubs and body masks to soothe, hydrate and soften the effects of sun burn.
Body Scrub
Suntanned skin may be nice, but peeling skin is not. For those suffering from this summer blunder, get a loofah sponge from your local drugstore to scrub away peeling skin. Else, use an invigorating almond scrub to gently exfoliate and relieve itchy, flaking skin. You can make it at home by mixing 2/3 cup of ground almonds, ½ cup of oatmeal, plain yoghurt, milk or buttermilk, ½ teaspoon of herbs like lavender or chamomile. Mix dry ingredients in a blender. Place one ¼ cup of blended ingredients in a bowl, stir in liquid ingredients to make a paste. Rub over body and rinse thoroughly. The rest of the dry ingredients can be stored in a jar and refrigerated for future use.
Severe tanning can be countered with a mix of sugar, lemon juice and glycerin scrub for affected areas. Sun tanned skin can also be treated with liquidised cucumber to which you have added 1-tbsp. of chilled milk. Apply and leave on this mixture for 15-minutes, then rinse off with cold water. Used twice a day it helps afford relief to a badly sun tanned skin.
However, the best remedy of all is to use Aloe Vera, also known as the Miracle Plant. Used for everything from skin burns to sun burns, mash an ale vera leaf, add the juice on eone lemon to and apply to affected areas. It not only clears but nourishes the skin, as well. Other good remedies for treating sun tan are olive oil, a mix of honey (2 tbsp.) and juice of one lime applied to sun burnt or tanned areas.
Aloe vera, apple cider vinegar, fresh cucumber slices, grated potato rubbed or applied to affected skin helps reduce inflammation and relieves pain and itch of sun burnt skin. Mustard oil rubbed on affected skin and allowed to dry cools the skin by drawing out the heat. Baking powder added to bath water helps soothe sun burnt skin., as do lavender or peppermint oil applications. While, a few drops of chamomile or lavender essential oils in bath water make for an effective remedy for treating sun tanned skin.
