This nutrient is available mostly in fruits such as lemons, oranges, strawberries and vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, spinach etc.

To begin with, vitamin C helps the body to fight the harmful effects pollution has on the human body. If you have high blood-pressure, then this vitamin is your aid as it helps to lower high blood pressure. It fights and prevents diseases related to cancer.

Apart from that, this nutrient keeps teeth and gum stronger and healthier. Have this vitamin regularly and you will never have scurvy, a disease that is caused because of lack of vitamin C.

Vitamin C also works miracles on wounds of all kinds. Whether it is cut or a broken bone, burn or surgical wound, this nutrient can be your magic potion. It helps the wounds to heal much faster. It also decreases the stress level as well as depression. Those who are suffering from these two problems better have their daily dose of vitamin C to be stress free and free of depression.

After a certain age people often complain about their eye sight. People above 50 face the problem of cataract, which blurs eye sight and may even cause blindness. This vitamin can prevent cataracts.

Here it should be mentioned that people who have asthma need vitamin C the most. Also diabetes patients can also be benefitted by this as it helps to control the blood sugar level. Other than that, people who smoke need to consume large amount of this nutrient as smoking reduces the amount of vitamin C in the body.

The human body loses vitamin C when one urinates. For adults, it is better to consume 100 mg of vitamin C everyday where as for the children the amount is 30 mg to 80 mg.

Fruits and fresh vegetables are the best source of vitamin C. The level of vitamin C reduces if a food is cooked for a long time. Also canned fruits lack the necessary amount of this important nutrient.

In one word this is one nutrient with multiple purposes. Have your daily dose of vitamin C and see the difference yourself.
