Back To Nature
August 4, 2008
As more and more people become aware of the harmful chemicals present in plastics and other man-made materials, they are turning to natural fibres like wood, stone and marble for home interiors. Today, the trend in home improvement leans more towards a natural feel, using stone and marble for patios, surfaces and floors.
Coming in a variety types and colours, marble and stone, combined together create an appealing look when used for carving out washbasins, or for use in mosaic work. For those who don’t like marble, there is always stone that is available in as many varieties of size, shape and colour as is marble.
In keeping with the use of natural materials, there is also a new water-based stone sealant on the market, virtually odour free and which makes it healthier and far more pleasant to use than traditional solvent-based solutions. Most natural material firms source all of their stone supplies from carefully vetted quarries in Italy, Egypt, Turkey, India, and a number of other countries that have sustainable sources.
Natural stone products include tiles, wash basins, sinks and mosaics for bowls, shower trays, bath tubs, kitchen and bathroom basins, worktops, washstands and a range of accessories, such as, carved or corner shelving.
Durable and tactile, these products are exciting to work with. Even as they have lain in the earth for millions of years, yet we have this fantastic ability to shape and give new life to stone and marble. And, it looks the trend for natural materials in the home is set to stay, as more and more people embrace natural materials in their home. They are moving away from cheap laminates and fixtures back to wool carpets and solid wood features. In turn, stone and marble have also been rediscovered.
Concerns about fixatives, chemicals and allergens in the home have helped to encourage people toward longer-life natural materials, even as, the desire for quality and demand for unique colours and textures grows.
So, as does the rest of the world, so too go green in your house and home. Follow the trend but ensure your remain environmentally friendly, without putting undue strain on the earth’s resources!
