Avoid Red Meat, Live Longer

avoid-red-meatNumerous studies have shown the disastrous affects of red meat on health. Recently a new study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine People confirmed previous findings and beliefs that those who eat red and processed meat have a higher risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, while those that consume white meat poses have lesser health risk. So it is advisable to avoid read meat, if you want to live healthy and longer.

Red meat is generally associated with darker-coloured meat ranging from beef, mutton, duck, pork to any meat of an adult mammal.

You may not be aware that cancer-causing compounds are formed during high-temperature cooking of meat. Besides this, meat is a major source of saturated fat that has been proved as a major breast and colorectal cancer-causing agent. Supporting this finding, studies have discovered the link between lower meat intake with reduced chances of contracting heart diseases as well as lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. In addition to this, some nutrition scientists claim that the protein and iron found in red meat contribute to adverse health. The iron found in red meat can be easily absorbed, causing significant changes in cholesterol levels and increasing the chances of clogged arteries. It is so much healthier to go for fibrous fruit and vegetables, whole grains and beans that can supply proteins, vitamins and minerals to the body. People who consume a lot of processed meat, cold cuts and sausages, also have higher chances of contracting heart diseases and a significant increased risk of death.

We often ask, what is the safe level? Scientists have not been able to answer this question because there are various other factors that have to be taken into consideration. The point is, it depends on many factors so that the level differs from person to person.  It depends on your lifestyle whether you exercise, drink, smoke and your genetic make-up, etc. The safest answer is – less is better. As the study concluded, the more red meat we eat, the greater our chances of dying early.
