Atkins Diet
I am one person who never went on a diet. I do not believe in it, for me the word diet is just the word Die and a letter T added at the end of it. My sister tells me I just do not have the discipline to hold a diet. It may be true on some level because I do not believe in depriving myself of a certain food and eating lots of different kinds of food. For me it defeats the purpose of not eating. I take the more practical way of losing weight, I exercise, take long walks with my dogs of which I have five and just have fun.
Atkins diet is a high protein, low carbohydrate weight lost plan or in other words a diet plan. High protein meaning that you get to eat meat lots and lots of lean red meat. But what about the needed carbohydrates of the body? Where do we get the carbohydrates we need for the day. If we recall carbohydrates is the source of our energy for our daily use especially for our brain which exclusively feeds on carbohydrates alone. According to studies the Atkins diet plan is very effective because of a process called Ketosis. Ketosis is a process that kicks in when your body is in short supply of carbohydrates. Ketosis is when your carbohydrate – depleted body takes hold of different sources for the lack of energy including ketones from stored fat or proteins from muscles to satisfy the daily requirements of lost carbohydrates.
Is Atkins really safe although it is a really popular diet? That still remains to be seen because the medical community is still not convinced that no harm will come to the user in the long run. We should also keep in mind the long term effects of eating a lot of meat which this diet requires. Now the only thing left to ask ourselves is whether we prepared for the precautions of this diet in the long run all for the sake of vanity?
