Arranged marriages-past and present

Marriages arranged by parents are termed as arranged marriages. It is one of the matters of debate for a long time and people possess distinct opinions regarding it. Some people believe that it is a good method to choose a life partner. Although, it takes some time to understand each other but it can sow the seeds of life time relationship. They believe that however in love marriage you will get the desired partner but your values and traditions will conflict later on. Some people say that love marriage is better in comparisons to that of arranged marriage.
The trend of arrange marriages originated especially from Asia. The parents used to take the crucial decisions for their children. Believe it or not, but in some of the places the marriage of children are decided right after their birth. It would be decided in advance that the girl child has to go to this house at this age. It was quite an old tradition and now-a-days it is not common.
Even at present in some of the Asian countries children are not allowed to take the decision of their marriage by their own. They are not left independent to take the decision of their life. Parents think that children are not matured enough like them to take extremely crucial decision like marriage. Sometimes children go for an arranged marriage for sake of society and emotional pressure.
But today, the reason of marriage is not limited to this only. Couples now prefer to marry on the basis of practical reasons. They believe in checking each other’s entire background including interests in education, professional career and attitude. The tradition of arranged marriages on the basis of caste and culture exists today as well. How to marry is still depends highly on the person’s interest.
