Are you an Elegant Woman
July 11, 2009
What exactly defines elegance? Is it the attribute of appearing effective and simplistic? Is it a standard of tastefulness? Or is it more of an abstract ideal? Why is it that some people, while appearing tasteful, do not appear elegant? The two are not one and the same, and in order to achieve elegance, there are some tried, and true secrets you need to know.
Clothing, although not as important detail when referring to elegance, is still a necessary aspect of creating your style. As mentioned earlier, true elegance involves simplicity and your clothing should reflect this.
Avoid clothing adorned with large flowers, numerous accessories, and other noticeable details. Avoid brightly colored clothing, and be sure light and dark hues are soft and paired well with one another.
In addition to color, it is imperative that clothing be of the right fit. Clothing that is too large or too small will most definitely thwart your efforts at appearing elegant. In addition, your clothes should always be free from wrinkles, stains, rips, loose threads, and fading of any sort.
In addition to clothing, the appearance of your hair, nails, and shoes should be perfect as well. Clean and manicured nails are a must. Hair should not appear disheveled and should be in place.
Always keep in your bag a comb, hairspray, nail file and any other necessary tools required for grooming. This will help you to appear clean and hygienic. Excessive makeup should be avoided, as should bold colored makeup.
A sweep of mascara, a dab of lipstick and a touch of blush are all you need during the daylight. For eveningwear, adding eye shadow is fine as long as it matches your clothing, and is not applied excessively.
Aside from your appearance, the way you speak is equally important. Your air of elegance will be tossed out the window if your speech does not match your appearance. Speak eloquently, never use slang, and always speak proper English.
Remember that an elegant woman will never shout and will always keep tempers under control. This does not mean you cannot show your emotions, it just means you must be sure to control them.
You should always be mindful of your manners and know how to interact properly with people you have just met, how to eat in a fancy restaurant and how to behave in similar situations.
Finally, one of the most important features of elegance is grace. Always walk with your head held high and walk straight. Sit upright with your legs properly crossed and again, your head up high.
To practice your walk, wear shoes with high heels and take small steps. There are several books written on the subject and reading a few will help you achieve your goal.
Being elegant is not something that can be learned over night, it requires patience and practice. With some effort on your part, you’re sure to become the elegant woman you wish to become.
