10 Weight loss myths – do not be fooled

It seems as if the idea of losing weight has caught the world by grip and so several people have gotten into the whole diet thing. However, the sad fact is that while there are many genuine weight loss programs and techniques, there are also several myths prevalent among people about what is right and what is not, as far as weight loss is concerned.

All through these years, several lies have been told and these have carried on, becoming myths that are leading people away from loosing any weight and getting the most out of their diet plans.

This article deals with some common myths and the truth behind those myths. Therefore, if you are looking to clear up your mind then read on.

Lose a pound in a day
There are fad diets that make such irrelevant promises. If you want to lose weight the healthy way, then you will have to wait with patience because it will certainly not happen in a day. All those promises of losing massive amounts of weights in unbelievably short periods are absolutely false and more importantly, absolutely unhealthy.

All fat should be avoided
Fat is not bad, at least not all of it. There is some kind of fat that is actually required for your body to function well; it is called the essential fats or fatty acids.

Carbs are an enemy
Neither fat nor carbohydrates are bad for your health. Just like fat, carbohydrates are also two types, the good ones and the bad ones. You need to take complex carbohydrates more and less of simple carbohydrates, although both the types are necessary for your body.

Do not eat to lose weight
Starving will only produce a reaction in your body, which will deposit fat in your body. Instead of losing fat, you will lose some precious muscle. So, stop starving yourself.

Eat no later than 6 in the evening
It has nothing to do with the time. It has all to do only with what you are eating.

Gorge on salad bars
Again, what and how much you are eating matters a lot. If you gorge on bacon, fried chicken, fatty dressings, then salad bars are no better than any fast food outlet.

Diet sodas are good
There is not single supporting evidence to this myth.

Do not weigh yourself
You should check your weight at regular intervals so that you can keep an eye on how much you are moving forward.

Pop a pill and lose some weight
Besides some really undesirable side effects, there is little that these pills can do.

Hit the gym
Half an hour to an hour of moderate exercise is all you need everyday to maintain your weight. You will not need to do presses and squats unless you are looking to build some muscle.
