Modern medical world has many prescription medicines to combat high blood pressure which would cause many side effects. At the same time it is possible to reduce blood pressure by adopting some natural remedial measures. These natural methods are described here briefly:
1. Diet: Switch to a diet rich in minerals, leafy vegetables and fruits, rich in fiber but low in fat. Do not take junk food. Do not overeat.
2. Salt: High sodium content is one of the reasons for high blood pressure. Most of the canned and processed foods have salt three times more than the natural requirement. By consuming the canned food we are only increasing the sodium (salt) content in the body. This causes high blood pressure. So avoid canned or processed food.
3. Sugar: Sugar has the property of retaining water in the body. Further, it is also likely to disrupt metabolism of insulin produced in the body. These changes in the body mechanism are likely to cause blood pressure. So reduce the intake of sugar.
4. Red meat: Researchers have found that red meat is likely to cause high blood pressure. So switch to white meat and as far as possible avoid red meat.
5. Saturated animal fat: Saturated animal fat and dairy products are sure to cause high blood pressure because of high fat contents in these products. Instead, use vegetable fat which is a natural product. If you are obese or already suffering from high blood pressure, then it is better to use the vegetable fat also in limited quantity.
6. Alcohol: Researchers have pointed out that excessive alcohol is likely to cause high blood pressure. The safe limit for alcohol is three drinks a day. If you are pregnant, whether you are having blood pressure or not, totally stop alcohol.
7. Exercise: This is one of the best methods to reduce high blood pressure. Yoga would also be much helpful in this regard.
8. Obesity: More the weight than which is commensurate with your age and height, more is the chance of being hypertensive. So keep your weight under control.
9. Stress: This is one of the main reasons for high blood pressure. So keep cool and calm. Take to meditation and yoga. Keep engaged in constructive activity and think positive.
