Variation in sense of taste
- In vata dominance taste becomes indefinite or kashaya (astringent)
- In pitta dominance taste becomes tickt (bitter) and sometimes it become katu (pungent)
- In kapha dominance the taste becomes some what sweet and some times there is hint of lavan rasa (salty).
In paralysis of tongue the tongue may develop tasteless ness or may be present in only in some parts only. Tongue may be protruded to one side owing to the paralysis of motor nerves.
Normally the body of each individual has a particular taste. The investigation of the rasa (taste) includes the investigation of the taste of the body of the person. As it can not be examined directly, indirect means are followed which are mentioned as follows:
- Viras- taste which is very offensive
- Swadu rasa- the other taste that is pleasant and attractive
As these taste can not be perceived by the physician directly, they arte known by the attitude of the insects like makshika (flies), yuka (lice), damsha (ants), and matchar or masaka (mosquito), towards the patient, however much the patient is washed or kept clean. If any of these conditions suddenly appears in a person who is weak both in strength and body build, it may be considered as omen.
