The Great Wall of China

The greatest tourist attraction and most interesting place in China is its Great Wall. It was built to fortify and protect the Chinese empire from invaders in ancient times. Most of it has been reconstructed in the Ming Dynasty.

At places like Beijing, Jinshanling and Shanhaiguan, you can find some of the most well preserved portions of the Great Wall. This World Heritage Site is also one of the Seven Wonders of the World, so don’t miss a chance to visit this site and to experience a bit of oriental history first hand.

The Forbidden City

The site of the Forbidden City is also a major tourist magnet. Located in the Northern Chinese city of Beijing, it is a place that is filled with historical charm and architectural splendor. It was built during the Ming Dynasty to serve as the Imperial Palace.

This World Heritage Site features a number of halls and palaces like the Palace of Heavenly Purity and the Palace of Earthly Tranquility for example. The Forbidden City is now home to the Palace Museum where you can find a considerable amount (more than a million) of rare artifacts and preserved art work including beautiful paintings, exquisite pottery, jade and porcelain items, bronze pieces, etc.


Jiuzhaigou Valley

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Jiuzhaigou Valley is another interesting place in china and definitely worth paying a visit. Located in the Sichuan province, the Jiuzhaigou Valley is renowned for its numerous and beautiful waterfalls like the Pearl Waterfalls and Nuorilang Falls, and lovely lakes like the Five Flower Lake and the Reed Lake for example.

The valley is also home to various species of flora and fauna including the famous endangered species of Giant Panda. There are also seven villages where one can buy souvenirs and local handicrafts.

The Terracotta Warriors of Xi’an are also worth visiting. The Terracotta Army comprises of a number of beautifully made sculptures of warriors, horses and chariots. Each of these terracotta figurines is unique and detailed in appearance including facial features and expression.

Though the original paint has faded or disappeared, you can still see remnants of color upon these figures. These terracotta attractions are found in the mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, who was the first Qin emperor. The site also features a necropolis built around the funeral mound of the emperor near Mount Li.

Other interesting places in China include the Hanging temple, which is a beautiful ancient structure built into a cliff in the Shanxi province, Mount Sanqingshan National Park in the Jiangxi province, which is a natural paradise renowned for its scenic beauty, The Bund which is an area in Shanghai and home to some interesting buildings, etc.
