How to visit Sri Jagan Mohini Temple in Ryali

ryali The well-known Sri Jagan Mohini temple is located in Ryali, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh State, India. Jagan Mohini is another form of Lord Maha Vishnu. Ryali is a small village. This place is also known as Kona Seema, an irrigated area. Godavari River is the main source of water for farmers in the Kona Seema region.

Sri Jagan Mohini Swamy idol is made of a single stone. It has a height of 5 ft and a width of 3 ft. You can see a female form – Mohini from the rear side and Vishnu from the front side. Visit this temple to explore architectural beauty of the temple and the idol. You can observe the flow of Akasha Ganga at Sri Maha Vishnu’s feet. Cholas had ruled this area during 11th century. It was a wild forest in the 11th century. A small temple was built initially in the 11th century by Raja Vikrama Deva. It was renovated later.

Lord Maha Vishnu appeared in the form of Jagan Mohini to protect Devatas from Rakshasas during Samudra Mardhana to get Amrutam. Amrutam is holy divine nectar. A person drinking Amrutham will not have death. Mohini avoided distributing amrutham to rakhashas and favored devatas. Lord Shiva fell in love with Mohini after seeing her. Lord Shiva recognized that Mohini was actually Lord Vishnu when a flower dropped from Mohini’s plait. The meaning of Ryali is FALL in Telugu.

Lord Brahma consecrated Shiva Lingam with the help of his kamandalam. Hence, pilgrims worship Lord Shiva as Uma Kamandaleswara. Pilgrims worship Lord Maha Vishnu as Sri Jagan Mohini. The Lord Maha Vishnu temple and Lord Shiva Temple face each other in the west and east directions. You should watch this rare feature at Ryali. Visit the temples and enjoy beautifully sculptured places around the shrine.

The devotees can visit the temple from 6.00am to 12.00noon and 3.00 to 8.00pm. The authorities don’t allow cameras inside the temple.
