Google Alerts are an excellent, free service from Google, wherein you can receive email alerts about the latest relevant Google results based upon the queries or topics that you have chosen. You can set up Google alerts for news related to your favorite topics, and have the results automatically delivered to your inbox. This article describes how to set up Google alerts.
The best part about using Google alerts is that they save you time, while at the same time keeping you updated about the latest on sales and bargains, sports scores, weather scenario, celebrities and events, or any piece of information you wish to receive. You can scan the email alerts as and when they arrive or you can archive them for later use as well.
Follow these steps to set up Google alerts:
Step 1: Open your browser and go to the Google Alerts BETA page. Enter the keywords for the topic that you wish to monitor, in the Search Terms box.
Step 2: From the drop down list, select the Type of alert that you want to receive. The Comprehensive Alert allows updates from news sources, blogs, Google Groups messages and websites. You can choose to receive updates from only one of these sources, and not all of them.
Step 3: Choose How often you want Google to send these Alerts to you. You can choose to be updated as soon as Google finds a result matching your keyword, once a day, or once a week.
Step 4: Enter Your email address where you will like to receive the Alerts. You will need a Google email account for this; so, sign up for an account if you don’t already have one.
Step 5: Click Create Alert once you are done with steps 1-4. Your Google Alerts have been set up.
Step 6: Once you receive a few Google Alerts in your inbox, you can review and make desired changes to your alerts if you think you are receiving too much or too little information. To do so, you need to log in on the Google Accounts page. Select Manage Alerts to view your saved alerts. Delete alerts that you think are unnecessary.
