Junk foods cause a lot of temptation because of their good taste, easy availability, lack of any hassles or effort in preparation, ready to use state and affordable price. The temptation to munch on these foods also gets aggravated if there is boredom, stress, lack of anything else to eat, idle mind or excessive watching of television.
To resist junk food, change your lifestyle. Make a note of times when you get the urge to munch on these foods. It may be during a stressful situation, by staying up late, by seeing an advertisement or others eating it, or by watching television. Be aware that these events create temptation and try to stay away from the triggering factors.
Eat well. Many a times we compromise on healthy food, skip breakfast or lunch and therefore get an urge of munch on something. Do not skip meals or go for a strict dieting regime. Infact, by eating a healthy and filling breakfast, you do not get the urge to munch on to something during the day.
Eat 4-5 small meals throughout the day rather than a single large meal or dinner. This will avoid the tendency to grab chips, wafers, burgers etc during odd hours. Do not starve yourself and then end up eating finger chips or wafers.
Drink plenty of water or take soups or fresh fruit juices. Cut raw vegetables like cucumber, tomatoes etc, slightly sprinkle it with salt, and keep it in the fridge. Whenever you feel the urge to eat, you can eat these items rather than junk food.
When you feel like eating junk, threaten yourself with the consequence of eating such food. Tell yourself that it is unhealthy, it is not a natural food, it contains fats and oil, you will gain weight etc. Tell yourself ‘stop’, ‘I wont eat it’, ‘I will feel guilty after eating it’ etc.
Another easy trick is to not buy these foods. Do not stock these items at home to avoid the temptation to eat it.
