If you are fond of having snacks then you can learn how to make sago upma. This snack food is a great appetizer as well and it is good for kids who are very choosy about food. You can prepare this salty dish whenever you feel hungry.
Ingredients for Sago Upma
If you want to make this upma, then you need to have in your kitchen, 250 grams of sago seeds, two to three chopped green chilies, two finely chopped medium-size onions, some chili powder to taste, two medium-size potatoes, half cup of ground nuts, a pinch of turmeric powder, half teaspoon each of cumin and mustard seeds, one pinch of asafetida, salt to taste, curry leaves, and green coriander leaves. Keep some oil or ghee for frying.
Procedure for Making Sago Upma
Cut the potatoes into small pieces or you can even grate them. Steep the sago in water for three to four hours. Wash the seeds to get rid of the white powder. Now you have to heat some ghee or oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafetida, and chopped green chilies. After that, you have to throw potatoes and onions to the pan.
Take another pan and roast the ground nuts without using any ghee or oil. You can throw away the peel if you want to. Grind the ground nuts so that they resemble a coarse powder. When the potatoes and onions become soft, you have to add all the spices. Fry them well. Then add sago and ground nut powder.
For two minutes cover with a lid. After that fry for sometime and repeat the same procedure. Don’t allow the sago to adhere to the pan. When all the ingredients mix well, your upma is ready. You can enjoy it with spicy mint chutney.
