Many of us feel that skin care in harsh winter months is an uphill task. The cold weather leaves our skin feeling stretched and dry. Lips also chap immediately if not given due attention. Here are some tips on taking care of skin in cold weather.
Oil massage- Before you bathe; massage your skin with oil. You can use olive oil for this. For more cost-effective care, even pure coconut oil (without perfume) works very well to keep the skin supple and nourished in cold weather. Another perfect oil that can be used in winters is pure sesame oil. Rub oil on your legs and arms and keep it for about 10-15 minutes. Bathe as usual.
Moisturizers: Make generous use of moisturizers in winter. After bath, apply a generous coat of cold creams on you thighs, hands and back. Use a good quality moisturizer on your face too.
Do not take hot showers: Even when the cold tempts you to soak in hot water for long, do not do so. Bathe in lukewarm water and that too for a very brief duration. Prolonged exposure to hot water can make your skin lose its oil content. For this reason, you skin will start feeling dry and stretched in no time after a hot water bath.
Change in skin care: With a change in weather, you must incorporate changes accordingly in your beauty regime. To fight dry skin, switch to a heavy, richer moisturizer than you use in summers. Apply cream when your face and body is slightly wet to lock moisture within. Before going to sleep, apply a night cream. Do not forget to use an eye cream at night. Regular use can even help reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Hair care– Use a richer conditioner for your hair in winter season. Oil your hair regularly, especially when the climate is cold.
