How to improve memory

ime A good memory makes us feel healthy and generates self confidence and feeling of trust in our mental faculties.  Some of us have a good memory naturally, and some of us have to develop it.  The capacity to retain information is also affected by stress, tension, head injury or due to ageing process.

A healthy diet is essential for stimulating the brain and increasing the memory power.  Vitamin B6 and B12, and folic acids are good for the development of brain.  Include fish, especially the Tuna and Mackerel variety in your food.  Liver is also a rich source of vitamins for the brain.  Cod liver oil is a good supplement for improvement of memory.

Green vegetables like spinach and broccoli are also good for brain development.  Carrot, tomato, pumpkin, blueberry, citrus fruits, and melon and strawberry also help in memory improvement.  Walnuts are also known to have beneficial properties.

Also, eat food rich in vitamin E and C, as they act like anti oxidants and improve the flow of oxygen to the brain.

Eat 3-4 small meals throughout the day rather than 1-2 large meals.  This will help in providing essential minerals and vitamins to the brain as and when it gets exhausted due to work or stress.

To improve memory, control stress, tension and anxiety.  Practice yoga postures or meditation for controlling the mind.  It not only calms down the mind, but also helps in improvement of concentration and retention capacity.

Do not keep your mind idle.  Be active.  Follow hobbies or learn new skills, art or play games like chess or solve puzzles.  It makes the brain active and engages it in the thinking process.  It also helps in thinking hard and digging out information that was learnt some time back.  It can be an effective memory testing and improvement technique.

Be a fit and healthy person.  Allot atleast 30 minutes each day for physical exercises or outdoor sports.  It refreshes the mind and energizes the body.

Rest adequately.  Do not over stress your mind with work.  Learnt to relax, and cut off from work pressures.  Sleep atleast for 7 hours daily.
