How to have a healthy breakfast

breakfastBreakfast is essential because we need tremendous amount of energy to begin the day and go through it.  Breakfast, as the name suggests, means breaking the (night long) fast i.e. no eating for approximately 8-10 hours between the dinner and breakfast.

A breakfast should contain ingredients that energise your body and mind and provide essential vitamins, minerals and nutrition to the body.  Besides, a healthy and fulfilling breakfast reduces craving to munch something during the day.

Do not grab a piece of burger or eat pastry for your breakfast.  Avoid eating sugary, high fat or cholesterol food for breakfast.  It is filling but can lead to lethargy and overstuffed feeling due to which you may feel dull and not energetic enough to work.  Eat light but eat right.

Include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains or cereals, proteins and hydrating liquids in the breakfast.  Make yourself a sandwich using tomato, cucumber and boiled beetroot slices.  Instead of using butter make a paste of spinach and spread it over the bread.  Sprinkle little salt for taste.  Alternatively, you can also use homemade tomato ketchup for taste.  Avoid using bottled ketchup as it contains acids and preservatives.

Eat fresh fruits like apple or banana.  Eating fruits is not as simple as popping pieces into the mouth any time of the day.  The best way to eat fruits is to eat it on empty stomach.

For proteins, drink a glass of milk or eat eggs.  Egg sandwich with toast can also be a healthy breakfast option.  For the toast, use brown bread or whole grain bread rather than the white bread.   Add a bowl of yogurt to your breakfast.  It contains proteins, is filling, aids the process of digestion and can also be cooling during summer.

Drink plenty of liquids like water or fresh fruit juice like orange juice, lemon juice, carrot juice or tomato soup.  You need to keep your adequately hydrated especially during summers.

A bowl of cereal or oats mixed with milk and fruits is also a healthy breakfast option.
