How to Give Yourself a French Manicure

frnch Are you interested in “DIY” (do it yourself) nail care? Here’s a French Manicure guide that will give you well-groomed nails that do not look fussy and over made-up. Many women prefer the French manicure because of the simplicity of the procedure and the natural look that it imparts.

French manicure is a classic style of polishing the nails, in which the tips of the fingernails are painted white, while the rest of the nails are colored pink or given a pale pink or light beige sheer polish.  To do this manicure at home, you can either buy a French manicure kit from the store, or get the following equipment ready.

  • Nail Clipper
  • Nail Enamel Remover
  • Nail File
  • Nail Buffer
  • Nail Tip Guide Strips
  • Cuticle-Pusher
  • White Nail Enamel
  • Neutral Nail Enamel (go for colorless enamel or shades of beige, pink, or peach)
  • Cotton Swabs

Step 1: Clean your nails by using a nail enamel remover.

Step 2: Wash hands with a mild soap and lukewarm water, making the nails squeaky clean. Dry nails with a soft towel.

Step 3: Use the nail clipper to trim nails and then shape them with  nail file. Push back the cuticles with your cuticle-pusher.

Step 4: With a nail buffer, smooth out uneven areas of the nails.

Step 5: Rinse hands with water and pat dry.

Step 6: Cover your nails from the base to the tip with a thin coat of the neutral nail enamel. Allow this base coat to dry.

Step 7: Peel off the nail tip guide strips and stick them onto your nails. The strips should be placed just below the tip of the nail, so that they follow the nail’s normal curve. Make sure that the area of the curve remaining exposed is uniform for all nails.

Step 8: Apply smooth even coats of the white enamel on the exposed curves of nails. Wait for a coat to dry before applying the next coat.

Step 9: Remove the nail tip guide strips, and use the nail enamel remover to clean the adhesive on the nails.

Step 10: Apply 2 even coats of the neutral enamel to these just-revealed portions of nails.

Step 11: Finally, apply a thin coat of the neutral enamel from each nail’s base to tip. Allow this top coat to dry.

Enjoy the healthy and pearly look of your nails after this home French manicure.
