How to eat right for a healthy heart

heart Heart disease is a term that denotes all ailments that affect the heart. It is the leading cause of death in the United States. The types of heart disease are coronary heart disease, cardiomyopathy, cardiovascular disease, ischaemic heart disease, congestive cardiac failure, hypertensive heart disease, inflammatory heart disease, and valvular heart disease. Heart disease can be prevented with a healthy diet and regular exercise. Here’s how to eat right for having a healthy heart.

Avoiding unhealthy food

Unhealthy food is one that has bad fats and cholesterol. Fats are soft greasy substances found in organic tissue whereas cholesterol is an animal sterol that is normally synthesized by the liver and the most abundant steroid in animal tissues. Limiting the amount of saturated and trans fat that you eat should be the first step. This could considerably reduce your susceptibility to coronary artery disease, which is caused by the build up of plaques in your arteries.

Avoid eating butter, margarine and shortening. You could use low-fat sugar spreads on food items instead. Don’t buy snacks that have the words “partially hydrogenated” in the ingredient list. If you must use oil for cooking food, go for olive oil or canola oil in moderation. Try to abstain from cooking using palm oil.

Avoid intake of sodium. Sodium increased blood pressure. Much of the sodium comes from salt that we eat. So avoiding intake of salt is an excellent option to maintain the sodium level in your body to a minimum.

Eating more vegetable and fruits

Vegetables and fruits are rich in fiber. They are also a natural source of vitamins, and provide you enough energy without adding calories to your body. Ultimately you are eating for energy and nutrition, so vegetables and fruits fit the bill as a safe diet option.

And finally good exercise will complement your efforts to have a healthy heart through your diet, by promoting metabolism, calorie-burning, and other benefits.
