Employees are the backbone of any industry. A satisfied and motivated employee is an asset to a business enterprise. Employees are important component among factors of production as they comprise living human beings.
Every individual is different from the other in terms of the mental and physical abilities. This is the reason why humans tend to behave differently even under similar conditions.
Performance is a commonly used parameter to evaluate an employee. Performance is measured in terms of contribution made by the employee towards the attainment of predetermined goals.
Employee Evaluation is not and easy task, nevertheless an effective performance system proves to be beneficial for both the employee as well the entrepreneur.
Step 1 – Ensure that the employees are aware of their respective roles and responsibilities in the organization. They should have complete knowledge of the criterion that determines their performance.
Step2 – Give a copy of the evaluation sheet to each employee so that they can rate their performance on their own.
Step3 – Maintain at automated system at your end which updates job performance of employees in a specified time frame – daily, weekly or monthly as per the job description.
Step 4- Arrange for a place and prepare a time schedule to have a word with every employee regarding his or her progress. Select a place which offers some privacy and is quiet.
Step5 – Measure the performance of the employee in terms of predetermined goals. Chalk out a plan to reward and motivate employees such as incentives, promotion, rewards and recognition.
Step 6 – Communicate what is expected of them every now and then. Also welcome their feedback and work on feasible solution to lower their anxiety.
Step 7 – Set appropriate standards for performance measurement such as number of hours, articles, products or any other quantifiable parameter that can be compared to predetermined goals.
