Sinusitis

Sinusitis can be explained as a condition in which a person experiences severe and acute inflammation in the air-filled cavities present inside the human skull. Sinusitis may attack people of any age and sex. Children suffering from chronic disease like pain in ears, cold, and other viral diseases are prone to sinusitis. Asthmatic patients are also at higher risk of sinusitis. This article will explain in detail about the various aspects of sinusitis, its cause, symptoms, and home remedies.

Sinusitis Causes

Sinusitis can be due to plenty of reasons. Physical disorders like problem in septum and swelling of the nasal bones are the causes of sinusitis. Person suffering from viral infections, bacterial and fungal attacks are other causes of sinusitis. Different types of allergies related to skin may also cause sinusitis. Studies have shown that stressful lifestyle, excess intake of alcohol, smoking, etc., are other causes of sinusitis. Pregnant women also suffer from sinusitis. Tumors also cause sinusitis.

Sinusitis Diet

Eating healthy and nutritional foods are essential to keep body and mind healthy. Person suffering from sinusitis should eat plenty of green vegetables, fruits, cereals, salads, etc. Eat plenty of raw garlic and onions. It will open the nasal congestion and helps in curing sinusitis. Drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glasses) and fruit juice. Take ginger, cinnamon tea with little sugar and milk. This really does wonder for the nasal congestion. Avoid junk and oily foods, chocolates, sweets, etc. Similarly, patient should not take milk or any kind of milk product. Milk products cause congestion and hence patient will experience problem in breathing.

Apart from the above mentioned effective home remedies patient should take plenty of rest, stay happy and stress free. Sleeping in a right posture is also very important for the patients suffering from sinusitis. During sinusitis patients find difficulty in breathing, hence the best posture is lying on the side keeping 2 pillows below the head. The idea is to keep head little upward so that the mucus can easily discharge from the nose. Patient should also take water vapor; this will loosen and helps in easy discharge of mucus. Similarly, inhale salt solution (take a pinch of salt in your hand palm and add 2-3 drops of water in it) through one side of the nose, by closing the other side. It is also found that eucalyptus oil is good in curing sinusitis. Gargle 2-3 times a day with lukewarm water containing a pinch of salt in it.

Patient suffering from sinusitis experiences continuous sneezing, mucus flow from nose, severe body pain, breathlessness, headache, fever, etc. Patient also losses taste for food, mood swing, gets irritated, etc. So these are some of the sinusitis symptoms.

Home Remedies for Sinusitis - Sinusitis Treatment

Sinusitis is a troubling disease, given below are some of the best home remedies for its treatment.

Ginger:

Ginger is one of the oldest and effective home remedies for the treatment of different viral and nasal problems. Ginger extract is very good for curing sinusitis. Take small pieces of raw ginger and extract its juice. Take 1-2 teaspoon of this extract twice a day, until the disease s not cured completely. This is one of the important home remedies for sinusitis.

Garlic:

Another effective home remedy is garlic. Take 4-5 garlic seeds and soak in water for some time. Make its paste and inhale its fragrance. This will loosen the mucus and will make breathing easier.

Fenugreek (methi) seeds:

Fenugreek or methi seeds are useful in treating various diseases like sinusitis. Prepare a mixture by adding 2-3 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a glass of water. Boil till the water content reduces to half. Drain the mixture, and take in small sips. Take this mixture 2-3 times a day until the disease is not cured completely. This is one of the best home remedies for sinusitis.

Mustard seeds:

Take a teaspoon full of mustard seeds and in a glass of water. Boil until the water content reduces to half. Allow it to cool a little. With the help of a dropper, put 3-4 drops in the nose.

Cumin seeds:

Cumin seeds are also good in curing sinusitis. Take a teaspoon of cumin seeds in a perforated cotton cloth. Inhale the cumin fragrance. One of the useful home remedies for sinusitis.

Cinnamon:

It is also found that cinnamon seeds are good for curing sinusitis. Take 1-2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder; add a little amount of water to it. Apply this paste over the head and nose. This will really does wonder. Similarly, basil leaves extract cloves, etc., are quite effective in curing sinusitis. This is one of the useful home remedies for sinusitis.

Fruits:

Sinusitis patient should eat plenty of fresh juicy fruits like oranges, and other Vitamin C-rich fruits. Mango is also very good for sinusitis patient. Freshly prepared orange juice, sweet grape juice are best for curing sinusitis.
