Ringworm

Ringworm is a common skin disease caused due to fungal attacks on the skin. People suffering from this disease experiences a round or ring shaped dark red/pink spots on the skin. It is quite painful and irritating. This disease can attack people of all age. However, children are more susceptible to it. ringworm may attack in any part of the body; it especially attacks in underarms, waist, thighs, and fingers. Some times it spread over the entire scalp. In ayurveda it is included in kushth roga. This article will explain in detail about the various aspects of ringworm, its causes, symptoms, and most importantly the effective and simple, easily available home remedies for ringworm.

Ringworm Causes

Ringworm can be due to many things. The major causes of this skin disease are accumulation of sweat in the covered areas of our body, such as underarm, waist, thighs, between fingers, etc. Another cause of ringworm is using clothes, towels of the person suffering from ringworm or other skin disease. This infectious disease is caused also due to pets like dogs and cats and also through the untreated prolonging wounds on the body.

Ringworm Diet

Balanced diet is a must to keep your body healthy and disease free. Patient suffering from ringworm should survive only on fruit-based diet at least for 6-7 days. This fruit-based diet should include pineapple, apple, pomegranate (anar), citrus fruits like orange, etc. The main idea behind this fruit-based diet is that this diet would clear all the unwanted and toxic materials inside the body, which is causing skin and other disease. After a week, patient may start taking whole wheat bread, green leafy vegetables, milk and yoghurt, etc. a complete balanced diet must include fruits, green vegetables, whole wheat grain, cereals, grams, etc. Junk or oily food is not good for health and should be strictly avoided. Patient suffering from ringworm should also include fresh vegetable juice in their diet.

Apart from the above mentioned home remedies. Given below are some other important things that a patient suffering from ringworm should take care of.

Drink plenty of water.

Do yoga and meditation, especially breathing asanas.

Go for morning walk, inhale fresh air, do little exercise, etc.

Keep your body clean, use good quality (ayurvedic or medicated) soap, also apply mud pack (multani mitti) on your skin, use clean and soft towel, always dry your body with towel before wearing clothes.

Always wear clean and well-fitted clothes.

Bath twice a day, or thrice who perspire a lot. This will keep the body clean, and sweat and other germs will not infect your body and skin. But do not bath in hurry, always rub your body with your hands, using good quality scrubber while bathing.

Sunbath is also good for patient suffering from ringworm

What does Ringworm Look Like

Person suffering from ringworm will see round red/pink patches over the skin. Patient will experience stickiness as if some fluid is coming out of the patches. They also experience irritation, inflammation, etc. Patient may feel like itching the infected area.

Home Remedies for Ringworm - Ringworm Treatment

Ringworm is quite painful and irritating. If not treated early, starts spreading over the skin and cause severe pain and other problems. Given below are some of the useful and simple home remedies for the ringworm treatment.

Mustard seeds (Sarson)

Mustard or sarson seeds are good for the treatment of ringworm. Make a paste of powdered mustard seeds in water. Apply this paste over the infected skin and allow it to dry. Do this at least 3-4 times a day, till the infection is treated completely. This is one of the useful home remedies for ringworm.

Butea seeds ( Palaashke beej)

Butea or Palaash is an effective herb used for the treatment of ringworm. Take few seeds of Palaash and grind it in fine powder. Add little water to it and make a paste, apply this paste over the infected skin. Do this at least for 3-4 times a day till the infection is completely cured.

Haldi (Turmeric powder):

Make a paste of turmeric powder in water and apply it over the entire infected skin. Allow it to dry, then wash with water and dry with soft towel. This will show good and fast result. This is one of the best home remedies for ringworm

Papita (Papaya)

Raw papaya is a good medicine for ringworm. Take a piece of raw papaya and rub it gently over the infected area. Do this 3-4 times a day. However, patient may feel irritation or inflammation on the skin while rubbing. Do not panic, it ceases after some time. Continue this remedy till the disease is completely treated.

Lemon

Lemon is another effective home remedy for the ringworm treatment. Take a lime and cut into two pieces. Take a piece and spread common salt over its inner portion. Then apply it over the infected area, slowly and then apply little force and try to scrub the infected skin. After that wash it off with water and dry it with clean, soft towel. Do this till the infection is treated completely.

Basal leaf (Tulsi leaf)

Similarly, basal or tulsi leaf extract should be applied to the infected skin. Take 15-20 basal leaf and extract its juice. Apply it over the spots and allow it to dry. Repeat it 3-4 times daily till the infection is treated completely. This too is an effective home remedy and shows great improvement within 2-3 days. This is one of the important home remedies for ringworm.

Nariyal (Coconut) oil:

Coconut oil is also a good remedy. Apply 3-4 drops of coconut oil over the infected skin, this will keep the skin soft and soothes the infected skin.

Bay leaf (tejpatta)

Bay leaf or tejpatta is also an effective medicine. Make paste of green bay leaves adding water to it and apply over the infected area. This will sooth the skin and the swelling of the skin will also decrease. One of the useful home remedies for ringworm.
