Nothing can be more embarrassing than a lice coming out of your head and moving towards your forehead. Believe it is the worst and the most embarrassing situation, which anyone from a child to an adult faces. Normally, people with long hair experiences head lice. This article will explain in detail what are the causes of head lice and also what are the effective home remedies for treating it.

Head Lice Causes

First of all let’s look into what are the causes of head lice. The main causes include untidy hair, improper maintenance of long hair, living, playing or doing any activity with person suffering from head lice, use of chemical-based shampoo, etc. It is also said that people living stress-full life have excess amount of dandruff and lice on their head. Unhealthy living environment, lack of sanitation facility, living in a crowded place, etc. are some other reasons.

Home remedies for Head Lice

Head lice are embarrassing, irritating, itchy, painful, etc. It makes small red balls on the scalp which is quite itchy. Given below are some of the effective home remedies for head lice treatment

Lemon juice: Get rid of Head Lice

Lemon juice is considered as one of the effective home remedy for the head lice treatment and dandruff. Take equal amount (1-2 tablespoon) of lemon juice and garlic paste. Apply this mixture over the scalp and allow it to dry for 25-35 minutes. Wash your hair in cold water and rinse off the all dirt, dust, etc. This is one of the useful home remedies for head lice.

Olive oil:

Olive oil is good in killing head lice. Apply heavy amount of olive oil on your hair, and cover it with a plastic bag. Keep it overnight, later with the help of lice comb, take out all the head lice. Repeat this after every 10 days.

Egg yolk: Get rid of Head Lice

Make a mixture by adding egg yolk, vinegar, and lemon juice. Take egg yolk of 2 eggs, add 2-3 tablespoon of vinegar and equal amount of lemon juice into it. Mix it well and apply on the scalp. Allow it to dry for 20-30 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. This is one of the important home remedies for head lice.

Almond:

Almond is another effective home remedy to get rid of head lice. Soak 10-12 almonds in water and make its paste. Add 3-4 tablespoon of lemon juice in it. Apply this mixture over your scalp, and allow it to dry for 1-2 hours. Wash hair with cold water.

Apple cider vinegar:

Similarly, vinegar is also quite useful for removing head lice. Take 3-4 tablespoon of vinegar, add 2 tablespoon of lemon juice and garlic paste. Mix it well and apply it on the scalp. Allow it to dry for 2 hours and wash it off. Do this 3-4 times a month, you will surely see great result. This is one of the best home remedies for head lice.

Alcohol:

Alcohol also helps in eradicating head lice. Massage alcohol over your hair and keep it for half an hour. Wash it off. Do this once in a week.

Margosa (Neem) leaves: Get rid of Head Lice

Neem leaves is also good in killing head lice. Apply its paste on hair, allow it to dry and then wash it off. Do this at least twice a week. Conditioner containing margosa leaves are also good. Similarly, basal (tulsi) leaves are also quite useful. Take 20-30 basal leaves and make its paste. Either use it plain or mix with equal quantity of margosa leaf paste. Apply over the scalp and allow it to dry for half an hour and then wash it off. Repeat this 2-3 times a week. One of the useful home remedies for head lice.

Apart from these above mentioned remedies, given below are some of the preventive measures which one should always take:

Keep your body and hair clean, use herbal shampoo, and ayurvedic herbs for washing your hair.

Do not use comb, towel, and dress of those who are having head lice. These lice transmit very fast from one head to another through these substances.

If you cannot manage long hair, cut them regularly. Dirt, dust gives birth to these lice, so keep your hair short and tidy.

Lice transfer from one head to another. Stay away from those with head lice.

Never allow your scalp to dry, as this will lead to dandruff and head lice. Keep your scalp clean and apply coconut hair oil.

Apply Vaseline over the scalp, this is also very good. Similarly, you may use shaving cream as well.

The major symptoms of head lice include prolong itching on scalp, red elevated balls on scalp, neck, etc. Live parasites and white eggs in hair, etc., are other symptoms of head lice.
