Eczema or atopic dermatitis can be explained as a communicable skin disease in which the effected skin area becomes dry with constant itching sensation, and skin becomes red. The severity of this disease changes with temperature and season. It has been discovered that eczema is a hereditary disease and passes from generation to generation. The severity of eczema too is dependent upon triggers like heat, sweat, dust, harmful chemicals present in washing powder and detergent, and also emotions and sentiments, etc. If exposed to these triggers the eczema patient will experience severe inflammation, redness of skin, severe itching, small lumps around the effected area, etc. This skin disease may attack person of any age group and becomes severe day-by-day, if not treated immediately. Eczema Causes

Eczema can be due to hereditary reason or due to hay fever, allergy etc. Person sensitive toward dust, sweat, water, or have too sensitive skin may suffer from this painful disease. It may also occur to person with poor immune system, poor digestive system.

Eczema Diet

Patient suffering from eczema are kept on diet food based only on fruits like orange. The basic idea behind this type of diet food is to clear the bowel from all the toxic material causing itching and other harmful skin disease. During this diet food, the patient is given orange juice and water 3-4 times a day and nothing else. Some patients may find difficult in the initial 1-2 days but later on start responding well. This diet food has a positive effect in curing eczema. After a week, patient may start taking other food items like milk.

Once patient start showing improvement, diet rich in gram, cereals, green vegetables, salads, whole wheat flour bread, and fruits like carrot can be given to the patient. Oily and spicy food should be strictly avoided.

Sunbath and steam bath:

Sunbath and steam bath are very important along with mild exercises and jogging. Sunbath helps in killing bacteria and other disease causing germs. Patient should repeat steam bath 2-3 times a day.

The infected area can also be wrapped with soft cotton cloth. Pour little water over the cloth after every 20-25 minutes. The idea behind this process is to keep the wound cool so that the itching diminishes gradually.

Apart from all the above mentioned home remedies and exercises, patient should remember some of the basic things in order to protect from this severe skin disease. Patient should understand very well that what are the triggers that supports in increasing his pain and should stay away from them, other things which are to be kept in mind are always keep your skin dry, do not allow water or moisture to retain around the infected area. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juice like orange and lemon juice. As mentioned earlier that stress is one of the major causes of all the diseases, so patient should learn to live stress-free life by doing exercises and yogas.

Eczema Treatment

Eczema is one of the most painful and frustrating skin disease. With constant itching and formation of lumps and release of puss from the infected area is painful and patient feel shy and frustrating in mixing with other people. Given below are some of the effective home remedies used for the treatment of eczema.

Home remedies for Eczema:


It is an effective home remedy. Take equal amount (a teaspoon) of camphor and sandalwood and make a paste of it. Allow it to settle for some time and then apply this paste gently over the infected area. Repeat this for a week, twice a day. This is one of the useful home remedies for eczema.

Myristica fragrans or (nutmeg):

Make a paste of nutmeg in water and apply 2-3 times a day over the infected area. This paste has lots of medicinal effect in curing the various skin diseases.

Kharbooja (Musk melon) and mangoes:

These two fruits are effective medicine for eczema. Peel off the mango skin, and boil the pulp in water, allow it to cool. Apply this paste over the infected area for 10-15 days, patient will show great improvement. Similarly, extract juice of musk melon and apply it over the wound. This is one of the best home remedies for eczema.

Vegetable and fruit juice:

Freshly prepared fruit or vegetable juice is one of the easiest home remedy and is effective for cure of plenty of severe diseases. The most effective fruit juice for the treatment of eczema is gajar (carrot), orange, grapes and palak (spinach) juice. Similarly, tomato juice added with black pepper is one of the fastest remedy.

Vegetable or fruit packs:

Paste of raw beans, pumpkin, cranberry, finger millet juice, paste or slice of potatoes and plain cabbage leaf can be applied or simply put over the infected area. It has tremendous positive effect on the disease. All these pastes help in reducing itching, helps skin to dry easily, and kill the germs causing this disease. Strawberry paste is another important remedy. Make a paste of 3-4 strawberries and apply it to the effected area, cover the paste with a thick band-aid or clean cotton cloth (take a perforated cotton cloth). Apply this paste 3-4 times a day for 1-2 weeks. This is one of the important home remedies for eczema.

Apart from these pastes, eczema-infected skin should be washed with plain water or by mixing water with margosa or neem leaves or with turmeric powder. In order to make the turmeric water solution, take 2-3 teaspoon of turmeric powder to water and boil it at low flame. Remove it from heat and allow it cool a little. Wash the infected area with this solution. One of the useful home remedies for eczema.
