Dandruff

The skin of our entire body parts sheds its outer layer after a regular interval of time. The falling of dried skin flakes from the scalp is called dandruff. Dandruff, however, is not a serious disease, but it is frustrating and irritating. People having dandruff, experience a white flakes falling from their head all the time. These flakes are nothing but part of the skin of their head. The cause of dandruff can be anything from malfunctioning of the body system, to stress and unhealthy eating habits. It attacks to all the age group and it should never be ignored. It is a myth that dandruff occurs when skin of the scalp gets dried. This however, is not true, it usually occurs when the skin of the scalp become too much oily. Some people experience mild dandruff, some experience severe.

Dandruff Causes

The cause of the severe dandruff is due to a chronic skin disease, in which there the scalp is covered with dry red patches. The other organs affected with this disease are ears, nose, genitals, etc. Another cause of dandruff is pityrosporum ovale. This germ results in inflammation and formation of small blisters on the outer surface of the scalp, which later result in the shedding of the skin flakes.

Other causes of dandruff include improper diet, high caloric food intake, stress-full life, tension, overexertion, improper functioning of the body system, Dandruff. Prolong disease like jaundice also cause dandruff. Use of wrong hair oil, hair shampoos, and other hair-care products cause dandruff.

Dandruff Diet

Unhealthy food habit, excess intake of junk and oily food is also responsible for causing dandruff. Tea, coffee, and other beverages are also a big no for people suffering from dandruff. Similarly, meat, sugar, chocolates also should be avoided. Doctors suggest diet chart for the treatment of this disease. This diet chart includes juicy fruits, but not citrus fruits. Banana too is not a good choice for people suffering from severe dandruff. Doctors also suggest diet in which patient has to live only on fruits and freshly prepared fruit juices. This diet should continue for 3-5 days a week, and taking it 3 times a day. Not only for patient suffering from dandruff, but everyone should follow a balanced diet chart that includes green vegetables, grams, cereals, fruits, etc. Drink lots of water and fresh fruit juice.

Apart from all the above mentioned treatments, some basic things should never be missed. Keep your hair clean, use herbal shampoo, do not use shampoo with strong artificial fragrance. Comb your hair daily, this will keep the blood circulation normal inside the scalp. The best way of combing your hair is to bend your neck and head downward, comb the hair starting from the neck and gently moving it toward the tip of the head. Prevent scalp from becoming oily and dirty. Massage the scalp with above mentioned oils using your finger tips, by moving the fingers in a circular motion all over the scalp.

Major symptoms of dandruff are white colored skin flakes all over shoulder, severe itching, inflammation, and red blisters on the scalp.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

Dandruff as such is not a severe disease, but it really becomes irritating and frustrating when it becomes severe. Hence it should never be ignored. There are several home remedies which help in getting rid of this unwelcome guest.

Vinegar:

Take vinegar extracted from apple juice and add water to it. Either mix this mixture with shampoo or gently massage it over the scalp using cotton balls while shampooing the hair. Another way of using vinegar added with water is, apply the mixture al over the scalp, cover the scalp with cloth and keep it overnight. Wash hair with plain water or also add little of that mixture if required. This is one of the best home remedies for dandruff.

Fenugreek (methi) seeds:

Soak 2-3 tablespoons of methi seeds in water and keep it overnight. Make a paste of it and apply over the scalp. Let the paste over the scalp dry by keeping it for 30-45 minutes. Wash the hair with plain water or using soap nut. Fenugreek or methi seeds are one of the effective home remedies for the treatment of dandruff. This is how to cure dandruff

Thyme leaves:

Take half cup of water add thyme leaves (a kind of mint leaf) to it and boil it. Apply it over the scalp and hair. Wash after some time. This remedy is helpful in to cure dandruff

Lemon Juice:

Using lemon juice for hair not only makes the hair lustrous but also prevents it from dandruff and lice. Wash your hair with mild shampoo, take 1-2 teaspoon of freshly prepared lemon juice and rinse over the scalp and wash it away. This is one of the important home remedies for dandruff.

Plain curd:

Keep a small quantity of curd for fermentation for 2-3 days. Apply this curd to the scalp and hair. Dry it for 1 hour and wash it off. Curd not only removes dandruff, but also makes the hair shiny. This is one of the useful home remedies for dandruff.

Vitamin D:

Hair need proper sunlight, as it is rich in Vitamin D. Exposure to sunlight keeps the scalp healthy, and removes dandruff. It also enhances blood circulation and makes hair strong.

Homemade hair packs:

Some of the homemade hair packs include Vigna radiata (moong dal) powder mixed with curd. Take this powder and add a cup of curd into it. Apply it all over the scalp and hair, wash it after half an hour. Another one is liquid extracted from Trichosanthes anguina (Chichinda) and Beta vulgaris or beet. Boil beets in water and take out the water and keep it aside. Massage the scalp with this liquid. Similarly, extract juice from the Chichinda and apply over the scalp. These are some of the oldest remedies for the treatment of dandruff. Other hair packs for treating dandruff are lemon juice and goose berry (amla). Gently massage them over the scalp during night. These hair packs are very effective and does not have any side effects. This is one of the best home remedies for dandruff.

this site is good and gives good information but i want 2 confirm that
while using lemon as a pack what precautions we have to take because i have heard from someone that it turns u'r hair white.
