SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Tissue paper flowers are easy to make and even children can enjoy making them. All you need are beautiful tissue papers to make this flower craft. They can then be used to decorate wreathes, Christmas tree, gift-wraps etc inexpensively. These flowers make nice wedding decorations, can be kept around votive candles or used as table centerpieces.

Materials Required to Make Tissue Paper Flowers

  • Single ply pastel colored tissue paper
  • Chenille stem
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Water colors
  • Water
  • Paint brush
  • A basket
  • Ribbon

Instructions

Step 1: Take same or different colored tissue papers and cut them into rectangles of a desired size, say 5x7".

Step 2: Stack 5 or 6 such pieces together and accordion pleat them, working from the long side.

Step 3: Now, tie one end of a Chenille stem tightly around the middle of the accordion pleated tissue paper.

Step 4: Gently separate and fluff each layer of the tissue paper towards the centre to give it the shape of a flower.

Step 5: To make smaller flowers cut the folded tissue paper in the middle and place the pieces one on top of the other and follow Steps 3 and 4.

Step 6: You can use these flowers as it is or color them. To color them use a solution of water paints and water to dab the ends of the tissue paper to get beautiful blending colors. Let the paint dry.

Step 7: Now, to give finishing touches to the flowers, use a brush to dab thick brighter paints on its ends.

Make a couple of such colorful tissue paper flowers and place them in a basket. You can gift this basket to your mother on Mother's Day or use it as a May Day gift for your family, friends or neighbors. Decorate the handle of the basket with a bow made of ribbon.
