May Day is celebrated on the first of May every year to honor the services provided by the labor force of a country. Recycled May Basket is an easy craft for a May Day gift. Children will enjoy making this one and your neighbors, friends or family who get it as a surprise gift will simply adore it. You can even gift these to your servants or workers in the house as a gesture to recognize their services.

Supplies Required for Making a Recycled May Basket:

  • Empty Containers with large openings like a play-doh container or a cake box
  • Construction Paper in a variety of colors
  • A pair of scissors
  • Hand punch
  • Glue or Tape
  • Ribbon
  • Pencil
  • Silk or Handmade or Fresh flowers
  • Pebbles or sand

Instructions for Making the Recycled May Basket

Step 1: Cut a construction paper to cover the empty container. You can use markers or colors to decorate it first and then glue it on to the container.

Step 2: If you don’t wish to decorate it with colors you can use colorful construction paper for the purpose.Use a pencil to draw shapes of moon, stars, flowers etc and cut them our or instead use a decorative punch hole to punch different shapes of construction paper and glue them on to the container.

Step 3: Use the hole punch to punch two holes on the top of the container on either side of it. Tie a ribbon through both the holes to make a handle, so the container can be hanged.

Step 4: Fill the bucket with pebbles or sand. And put in the silk or fresh flowers so they can stand straight. If you wish to give the gift a more personal touch use handmade flowers made of paper or cloth to fill the basket.

Step 5: On the first of May hang these baskets on the door handles of your family and friends to surprise them.
