If you feel that it is important for a child to learn to appreciate nature and be eco-friendly, then this children’s craft is just what you are looking for. Teach your child how to grow a plant at home and help him\her take care of it and water it. He\she can plant it in a milk jug or plastic jug at the beginning of the year or on his\her birthday each year. These potted plants make a lovely Teacher’s Day or Mother’s Day gifts.

Supplies Required

  • Potted plant
  • Acrylic paint
  • Mixed decorative items
  • Clear contact paper
  • Hole punch
  • Hot gum
  • Marker
  • Paint brush
  • Passport size picture of the child
  • Ribbon
  • Small gift tag sized colored cardstock

Instructions

Step1: Grow a plant of your choice in a milk or plastic jug.

Step 2: Take an acrylic color of your choice and paint the pot (jug) with it. Allow the paint to dry completely before moving to the next step.

Step 3: Take assorted decorative items like beads, silk flowers, buttons, gold and silver rickrack and braids and tack them to the pot in any desired design and pattern.

Step 4: If you wish to gift this potted plant to your teacher or mother, then make a gift tag out of a cardstock. First, punch a hole near the top edge of the cardstock and string a ribbon through it. Thread a few beads at both the ends of the ribbon and secure them with knots.

Step 5: Paste your picture in the upper center of the tag and write a special message below it with a marker. The message could be something like ‘Thanks for Helping Me Grow!’ If you are gifting this potted plant to your teacher, then on the backside of the card stock write your name and your class.

Step 6: Laminate the tag with the clear contact paper and tie the ribbon on the neck of the pot.
