Origami is an oriental art of folding paper that has gained popularity throughout the world. Many intricate objects can be created out of this hobby; origami paper cup is one of the first projects that beginners’ learn. Origami paper cups can be made for display or for everyday use as household containers.
Supplies needed
Square paper: You can use any white paper or colorful paper if you wish to put the cups on display. Special origami papers are available in the markets that are two-sided (white on one side and colored on the other) and they are pre-cut in square shape.
You will need access to a work table that is hard and flat, to give you the sharpest possible creases.
Remember to start with an exact square, because if your dimensions are off by even a very small degree the cup may not fold correctly.
Instructions
Step 1: Place the paper on a surface so that it looks like a diamond to you. The colored side should face down.
Step 2: Take the bottom point up to touch the top point. Crease the paper and leave it folded. Make sure that the sides meet properly.
Step 3: Lift the left edge of this new triangle and take it to the right side. Keep the top of this fold parallel to the bottom line of the triangle and make a crease on the left side. Leave it folded.
Step 4: Bring the right edge of the triangle over to opposite side, keeping the top of this fold parallel to the bottom line of the triangle as well. Crease the right side and leave it folded.
Step 5: Take the top point of the triangle facing you and fold only the upper layer towards you.
Step 6: Turn the triangle around and turn the top edge downwards towards you like in Step 5.
Step 7: Poke the opening of the cup with your fingers so it opens up.
Origami paper cup is ready for use.
