Ice Cream Cone Christmas Tree

An ice cream cone Christmas tree is a perfect Christmas craft project. It looks good and tastes excellent! It is a great activity to occupy kids at a Christmas party. Kids can either eat the Christmas trees that they have made or take them home as a party favor. They can write their names on the paper plates and trade these trees amongst themselves.

Materials Needed

  • Shredded wheat cereal
  • White frosting
  • Green coloring
  • Waffle cone
  • Butter knife
  • Paper plate
  • Small colorful candies and tiny M&Ms as beads

Instructions

Step 1: Put the shredded wheat cereal in a plastic bag and seal it. Use a pestle to crush it into tiny pieces, taking care not to turn it into complete dust.

Step 2: Empty the crushed cereal pieces in a bowl and add some green food coloring to it. Mix them well, so they look like green “pine needles”.

Step 3: Empty the store bought white frosting in another mixing bowl. Add some green food coloring to it and use a hand blender or spoon to whisk it, until the frosting is thoroughly green.

Step 4: Place the waffle cone upside down on a paper plate. Use a butter knife to spread a layer of green frosting all over it.

Step 5: Once the waffle cone is completely coated with icing, roll it in the green wheat cereal. When it is lightly coated with the “pine needles” it will look like a pine tree.

Step 6: Again set the cone down on the plate with its pointed end sticking up. You or your children can then use colorful candy and M&Ms to decorate it. If the icing is unable to hold the candy because it is beginning to dry, just dip one side of the candy in green frosting and attach it to the tree.

Once the candy dries you can use the ice cream cone Christmas tree as a decoration or your child can eat it. If you wish to use this craft as a party activity simply pre-crush, pre-dye and pre-mix the icing and shredded cereal. Keep bowls of this mix along with other materials before each child and let them have fun making their own trees. Read about following Christmas Crafts:
