Edible Penguin Craft

Greet you family members at a family reunion with these cute and sweet edible penguins or instead you can use the edible penguin craft as a family activity on reunions and later enjoy these yummy candies together. Though this craft is quick and easy to make, kids may require a little help from adults in sticking the small licorice pieces and breaking the wafer candies into perfect halves.

Materials You Will Need

To make one edible penguin, you need:

  • One large white gumdrop
  • One small white gumdrop
  • Two black shoestring licorice
  • Toothpicks
  • One orange jellybean or gumdrop, cut into half
  • One orange M&M or gumdrop, halved
  • One Wafer candy, also cut into half
  • Royal icing
  • Scissors

Instructions for Edible Penguin Craft

Step 1: Make the head and the body of the penguin by attaching the small gumdrop on top of the large gumdrop, using a toothpick.

Step 2: Break a toothpick into half. Attach the halved jellybeans or the orange gumdrops to the larger gumdrop to make penguin’s feet using these toothpick pieces.

Step 3: Attach the two pieces of purple wafer candy on each side of the penguin’s body to create its wings. Dab the pieces into royal icing before you glue them to the large gumdrop.

Step 4: Carve the orange M&M beads to create the penguin’s beak. Affix it to the penguin’s head i.e. the small gumdrop, using royal icing.

Step 5: Use two tiny pieces of black shoestring licorice to make the penguin’s eyes. Again touch them lightly with royal icing to affix them to the small gumdrop.

This edible penguin craft requires less than an hour to complete and is a perfect fall craft to do for children. You can make as many edible penguins as you want but make sure there is one for each family member. Read about following Family Reunion Crafts :
