A duct tape purse is the perfect clothing accessory to make a style statement at a prom night. It is a simple, inexpensive and an easy craft that pre-teens and teens can experiment with. A duct tape purse also makes a nice present for Mother’s Day.
Step 1: Cut sixteen 12” strips of duct tape, eight of each color. Fold each of these strips to reduce their length to 6”, in such a way that the sticky sides stick together after folding.
Step 2: Weave these folded strips tightly to make the front of the bag. Keep alternating the colors when you weave. Cover the inside of this piece with strips of duct tape to make its lining.
Step 3: Cut three 9” strips of duct tape, to make each side of the purse. Place one strip with its sticky side facing upwards. Overlap half of this strip, lengthwise, with the second strip facing downwards. Cover the other half of the first strip with the third strip, so that half of the sticky part of this strip juts out on the other end of the first strip.
Step 4: For the back panel, use the same method as used for making the sides of the purse.
Step 5: Cover the cardboard pieces with duct tape to make the flap and bottom of the purse. Stick the sides of the purse to the cardboard. Attach the front and the back panel to them using duct tape; in such a way that half of it is on the main purse body and the other half on the part that you are trying to attach to it. Make sure you don’t stick the edge of the flap and the front panel together.
Step 6: C ut two pieces of tape as long as you want your handle to be. Join the two pieces together in such a manner that about 1/4” of sticky side offset on either side so you can fold those edges down. Use more tape to secure the handles inside the purse. Attach a stud on each side to hold them better.
Use a fake flower or a bow to decorate the front of the duct tape purse.
